The Extreme Vintage Ibanez Guitar

The Ibanez guitar brand has been around since 1929 when Hoshino Gakki, a musical instrument sales company from Japan that opened in 1908, began importing Salvador Ibanez guitars from Spain. During the Spanish Civil War, the Salvador Ibanez factory was destroyed, thus ending the manufacturing of their guitars. Hoshino Gakki then bought the Salvador Ibanez name and began to make acoustic guitars in 1935 and branding them as simply “Ibanez.”

Thus began the modern era of vintage Ibanez guitars. When Gakki began to make their Ibanez guitars, them mostly copied styles from European guitar makers such as Hagstrom and EKO. Then in the 60’s, they began to copy the designs of American guitar manufacturers such as Gibson, Fender, and Rickenbacker. This later led to a lawsuit against Ibanez for copying other companies designs. Since the lawsuit, Ibanez has produced original guitar designs for their guitars.

Vintage Ibanez guitars are now popular due to their extreme and wild looking designs from the 50’s, and popular and classic designs from the 60’s. Having such different design styles makes the vintage Ibanez guitars wanted by a wide range of guitar collectors. Since there is such a demand for the vintage Ibanez guitars, the prices are therefore amplified as well.

Japanese guitars are also considered to be as good as, if not sometimes better, than American guitars from the same period. The Japanese have a strong attention to detail and quality that makes their guitars extremely popular. For these reasons, the prices of vintage Ibanez guitars have been on the rise.

If you’re in the market for a vintage Ibanez guitar, it’s best to search for one online, at an auction, or in the classifieds. Finding one in the classifieds will probably help you save some money, as people selling online or at an auction are probably looking to get more money out of their vintage guitars. If you do enough searching, you may be able to find one in good condition for a reasonable price.

When buying vintage Ibanez guitars, always inspect them from the inside out. You want to assure yourself that the critical parts to make the guitar work are still functioning. You also want to see if there are any exterior blemishes or faults. Finding a good quality vintage Ibanez guitar can be like looking for a needle in a haystack, but if you are able to find one, it can feel like finding a hidden treasure.
